In a city where Juneteenth has been celebrated and carried forward by Black communities for generations, a new chapter of that tradition is unfolding. Juneteenth Houston, a citywide collaborative founded in 2022 rooted in the historic neighborhoods that have long sustained this legacy, is officially launching 19 Days of Juneteenth, an open invitation for Houstonians to celebrate freedom, culture, and community throughout the month of June.
Juneteenth celebrations have always centered community, connection, and shared experience of joy. By spreading that celebration across 19 Days, Juneteenth Houston is building on that tradition, creating more opportunities for people to come together and experience the jubilation that the holiday represents.
From June 1 through June 19, residents and visitors alike can explore a growing calendar of events happening across the Greater Houston Area. This is brought together through a coalition of historic Black neighborhoods, including Third Ward, Fourth Ward, Fifth Ward, Independence Heights, Sunnyside, Acres Homes, and South Park. Juneteenth Houston serves as a central hub to connect these celebrations, making it easier to discover and take part in events happening throughout the city.
Add your event to the Citywide Juneteenth Calendar and be a part of the 19 Days of Juneteenth Celebrations

Historic Black Neighborhood quilt project
Pay homage to your neighborhood by creating and submitting a panel to be added to our quilt highliting Houston’s Historic Black Neighborhoods. The Historic Black Neighborhood Quilt Project is a way to unearth buried stories and shine more light on the expansiveness of Black people in this country. Pay homage to your Black neighborhood past or present, by creating a panel inspired by fond memories, people and/or places that reflect it.
And if you don’t know how to make a panel or stitch a quilt, don’t worry, WE GOT YOU! Click the link to learn more about how we can help you create a panel.
Meet the designer of this year’s

Commemorative logo
CHRIS ROBINSON
CHRIS ROBINSON, is a Houston-based graphic designer, illustrator, and public artist specializing in culture-driven work that blends professional design strategy with personal, community-focused narratives. His work includes public art installations, such as the "Stand By Me" bus shelter project in Midtown Houston.
The inspiration behind the 161 Juneteenth logo was to bring the theme of homecoming into the design while also incorporating iconography that tell the story of Juneteenth. You will notice icons of the Galveston flower the Oleander, Palm tree leaves and African patterns. There are 2 and half stars that represent the time in which the message was delivered to Texas. You also notice the number design is a motif of a 3 dimensional design symbolized the future that Juneteenth promises to our tomorrow. The logo I created was meant to tell a story through style, something you can wear and share the meaning behind. This Juneteenth logo speaks to homecoming, celebration, and community. It reflects our need to gather, build, and thrive together.
